Take every opportunity you can.
My school's Best of Ringling exhibitions are coming up, and everyone is scrambling to submit their works, hoping to have something accepted so Ringling will use this year's best works to show off.
As a first year, we have our own "Best of Core" show (Core = core classes first years take). All 400 or so of us submitted up to 3 works each, and considering that our exhibition hall was mighty small, there would probably be only 30 or so works accepted, if that much.
Yesterday, my figure drawing teacher told me that the charcoal figure I submitted was accepted, and up and hanging.
I'm very excited, especially considering that I knew I was taking a big chance. But despite those chances, I made it into the Best of Core exhibition.
So, take every opportunity you can, and don't let fear of not succeeding keep you from succeeding.

Here is a black and white version of the painting on display (the original is a chromatic gray, which means I used colors to mix gray). Turns out, it wasn't my charcoal figure accepted, but my painting of a skull.
